Too many Malaysians have been living like "katak bawah tempurung" - they can see pass the shroud of deceit cast over their eyes. I used to be like tat too but reading especially open and mature materials opened my eyes. Working and living overseas for years also help a lot in helping me mature and hop out of the "tempurung".
Unfortunately, a lot more people are still ignorant - years after years of propaganda and manipulation of the media affected generations after generations - racial relationship and racial harmony are worsening day by day.
In secondary school days we still have several good buddies from other races. Ask any young boys now, how many friends from different races do they have? They would have a hard time answering you. Come on even in my alma mater primary school, for each primary class there is less than 5 Chinese students - how to have good racial relations like this?

Race is not an issue in Islam. Between Umno and PAS brand of Islam in relation to race, Malaysia is better with PAS.

Only people with great strength, great mind and great confidence dare come to face with reality. But unfortunately, Umno does not have these great qualities! Learn it from the Germans.
This textbook only reconfirms Umno's weakness. However, it has rekindled interests in the minds of the young who do not know the "real" truth about May 13.
Now I tell my children, "Yes, the May 13 was started by Umno and now they are trying to whitewash their sins." And I have - looking back with other books written by the other writers to back up my claims.

The idea of admitting the truth of May 13, will never be done because it was then that the " three rails of Malaysia politics" - Special rights, NEP and Islamization, began.

Do you think that the Malaysia undergraduates in public universities will truly appreciate the distorted facts in the new textbook by universities? Never will.
Due to the stipulations by the higher education ministry and the government, most of them will just treat the subject merely as a passing subject in order to gain a degree from their respective universities.
The students in universities are mature enough to judge what is wrong and right. With the advent of ICT, the students can easily determine facts from propaganda infused to the young generations. The latest move by the higher education ministry is just a hype that will gradually evanesce from the memory of the public not long after.
These textbook are simply another government agenda to reign in the youth to be close minded enough so what Umno fears will never become true. What is their worst fear? Being on the opposition side, of course.
The worst part of this is - it will probably be tested. Due to the rote learning system of Malaysia, students will inevitably memorise these false statements, and over time, forget thinking about the facts, and eventually only remember these false ones.
Don't think its possible? Well, ask any recent years SPM graduates. They can tell you everything in the textbook and still not know the actual facts.
Hence, the aim of learning is once again defeated. So much for ethnic relations. Once again, these gobbles succeeded in spreading false propaganda and news. Congrats.

It is so sad to say that nowadays most of the academics in our institutions of higher education no longer subscribed to the elusive and difficult path of searching for truth and knowledge but too busy looking and kowtowing for favours as a despicable and cheap way to success and promotion.
I blame the system of education and the politics of our country for this dastardly behaviour.
It is one result of the unrealistic, short-term approach that many of those in charge of government policy and educational institutions adopt. Where they treat academia as an adjunct to their own ideological goals.

You know very well the level or bench marking of Malaysian scholars nowadays. You must remember the scholars today in our universities not like those we had in 60s and 70s.

The history books are full of lies. Not only on the contributions of other races but their content on other religions also has to be thoroughly examined.
Many a time my relatives have to de-learn their kids on the rubbish they are taught in schools. This same rubbish is then used at government seminars to belittle other religions. That is a fact. Under Pak Lah (who supports death for apostasy) - it has increased.
Anyway, Malaysia history books have always been like that - a damn joke. Academicians are too comfy in their ivory towers to butt with the racist politicians who lobbied for such appalling history re-writing.

The sad part of it all is that this latest development is part of the many developments currently being practised to deny the important roles of the Chinese and Indians in the development of this country to what it is today.
It is not a coincidence that the state of development of countries around in this region is directly proportional to the percentage of Chinese populations - Thailand, Philippine, Singapore, Malaysia, Hong Kong, Indonesia.
Fortunately, the non-malays here are essentially non confrontational and let it be. Only grumble here and there so long as everybody can still earn a decent living.
The bad thing is, Malaysia is not using its full potential especially in this global environment and will lose out in the future. The meritocracy is a real joke. I know because I was there when Chinese in these countries were equal in capabilities in the 70s and 80s in ICT etc. Continue neglecting the non-malays in areas of trade, education etc, will have profound implications in the years to come.
As far as I am concerned, I am already looking for overseas opportunities not local. If my money grows overseas- it is in line with the NEP. My money won't be counted so NEP can be achieved. Good for all. NEP is about percentage, not the quantum.
When globalisation comes about, I do predict that many local businesses will go global and not be limited by stupid local politics. That is when the effects of NEP will be telling on those who depended on it. Only the fittest survives.

Under the Asean scholarship scheme, Singapore offers about 60 pct of its pre-university places to Mainland China students. The rest is given to Indians, Malaysians, and even to Vietnamese.
Then they take care of the pre-university students needs with counseling, dinner, interview with GLCs - everything to make the students stay and become Singaporean ambassadors, if not Singaporean citizens.
What do we do in Malaysia? We turn down the straight A students for scholarships. We tell many of them they are not wanted. We tell them to sit for the STPM, which is mile more difficult than the government-sponsored matriculation system. Then when they get straight As, we tell many of them we can't offer them courses of their choice.
We lost it more than 20 years ago, not just yesterday. We lost it when Mahathir decided to switch from the English education system to the Bahasa Melayu education system. We lost it when the authorities decided to mess around with qualifications and "kulitfications".
It is a known fact that the Chinese is leading the scientific research. More Chinese is writing journals (research papers) now than before. How can we compete with them when we are not writing enough papers!
It is stupid considering that the Singapore government is giving living allowance or willing to provide scholarship to study there, yet in our own backyard, Malaysia doesn't seem to appreciate us who work full time yet get nothing.

I read some comments with interest and can identify with the frustrations of the "other" Malaysians. They too have been marginalized because they are not under the patronage of Umno.
Yes, if our country does not reward and recognise talent, then our talented people, to put it bluntly, will go elsewhere where the reward system benefits them. Intellectual capital is as mobile as financial capital in our globalised world. It works on a universal incentive system. The best will go to places where their talents and skills can command a premium.
They will go to places where they can interact and engage with their peers, and have access to the best facilities for research and lifelong learning. So the environment must be conducive for the brightest and the best to operate.
The predicament we in Malaysia face today is not difficult to resolve if our leaders, Umno leaders in particular, have to the political will to change things around. The addiction to NEP and its subsequent variants under whatever label is serious and can only be removed over the long term.
This is a political price which current leaders are not prepared to bear. I often wondered what the MIC, MCA, Gerakan, and others in BN are doing about.
There is a lot of resistance to change this system since any change will mean loss to some vested interest groups. It is more convenient to continue to buy malay "loyalty" with a perverse incentive system than to overhaul a system that has after more than 3 decades obviously weakened the malays.
I say that because I know our leaders know what caused this underperformance in the malay community. It has to do with the over-protection of the NEP and the way we Malaysian Muslims practise our religion which is increasingly isolationist and exclusivist.
So if Malaysia does not reward and recognise talent, we will have a situation where mediocrity breeds mediocrity in a vicious circle, and eventually our country will slide into being a 4th, not 3rd world country, worse than some of the African states today.

Malaysia has a bunch of donkeys (not monkeys) who try very hard to run the nation. There are hidden agendas as to why they need to have a sporting complex in a foreign country to develop sports.
Australia which boasts of sporting powers, does not have any training facility anywhere in the world. It is the dedication of its athletes and avid sponsors that provide avenues for high achievements. Not the cold weather.
I find that most Malaysian sportsmen do not continue to excel once they have achieved their goals. They only live on past glories.
Malaysia should promote sports that are suitable for its environment. The constant hot weather is ideal for water-sports. Yet how many proper swimming pools are there in its major cities and towns? Batu Pahat, Muar, Johor Bahru etc, all have populations in excess of 300000 and still do not have a single swimming pool of significant size for training.
That is where the money should go and not to some foreign land. They should try to train divers, swimmers, waterpolo players, etc. They can train 365 days a year and the pools need not be heated too.
Sports are non-productive commodities and do not give any economic impact to any nation. It is like mahjong, purely recreational. What is the point of having quality sport personnel when they have backward educational systems that are only recognised by Indonesia. Abdullah and Najib, think about it!
The government must be crazy in wanting to establish a RM490 million sports academy in Britain. Crazy because such an academy will not benefit anybody except the officials at the Ministry of Youth and Sports.
It would be better if such money is to be used to help the needy and the poor in our country. Take the Iban community in Sarawak for example. The Ibans, who form about one-third of Sarawak population of 2.2 million, have been reported to be the poorest in the country.
Even the United Nations in its reports, has acknowledged that the Ibans are among the poorest in the world.
Like previous plans, the 9th Malaysia Plan has no concrete proposals to help the Iban community. I suggest therefore that the RM490 million be diverted to Sarawak to help the Ibans rather than establishing a sports academy in a foreign land.
The not-so-new prime minister says no more mega-project. We had to cancel the crooked bridge because the government did not do its homework. It did not get the agreement of the Singapore government. We have, what appears, to be a RM1.1 billion bill to pay and yet not get a bridge, crooked or scenic, or otherwise.
Now it looks like the government is embarking on another foolish mission, this time to build a crooked sports academy in the UK. The deputy prime minister appears to have given the go-ahead without any agreement from the UK government. Already a figure of almost half a billion ringgit has been quoted as the cost for the said academy.
We have not been told of any real good benefit such an academy would bring forth. Apart from the rather silly reasons of allowing our athletes to acclimatise for 'cold sports' and to be near or to in a place of doubtful sporting excellence, are there any real good reasons?
If there aren't any, then we should not be having such a sports academy. What is worrying is whether, like the crooked bridge, the government has committed us to building the said academy already.
Will we taxpayers end up (like before) facing a situation where we have to cough up more than half a billion ringgit and be left without the said academy?
Is it likely that the UK government would allow it to be turned into a Malaysian sports academy? The answer is pretty bloody obvious.

The glaring deficit of our leadership is lack of execution. Your answer to every problem is to form a committee. Punting problems onto committees reflects shallow executive talent. Not paying attention to execution is the bane of many leaders. All your wise policies would be meaningless if their execution is wanting.
Make Malaysia and Malaysians competitive; that would be a legacy more enduring and worth striving for.
All these aspirations would be for naught if Malaysians were divided. I am distressed at the deepening polarization of Malaysians and the increasing fragmentation of Malaysians.
The solution lies not in emphasizing but celebrating our differences; not in minimizing but sharing our commonalities. You must blunt those elements that would drive a wedge between Malaysians, and nurture those that would bring us together.
Malay leaders are again selling to their followers a bill of goods with the doctrine of Ketuanan Melayu (malay hegemony). These leaders delude themselves and the masses into thinking that we malays have been anointed Tuan (master) of Malaysia, with all the implied glories and privileges.
Both the premise and promise of Ketuanan Melayu are false. The sooner malays grasp this stark reality, the better it is for us and for all Malaysians, as well as for the nation. In this competitive world, you work to be a master; you must earn it!
In feudal societies, whether you are fated to be master or servant is determined at birth by your heritage. Malaysia has long passed that stage although many are still entrapped in the feudal mindset.
The sure path to uniting Malaysians is not through culture, education, language, politics, or religion but economics, specifically through the wonders of the marketplace.
Embrace free enterprise, and encourage the market exchange of goods and services among Malaysians, and between Malaysians and the world.
Once Malaysians view each other less as malays and non-malays but more as potential clients, customers and partners, national unity and prosperity would be enhanced. Likewise when we view foreigners in those terms, Malaysians would be contributing their share towards world peace and prosperity.
Build on our own legacy, and if you are successful, the excesses of you predecessor will become obvious through comparison. Create your legacy in your own style. There is no need to blow out someone else's candle in order to make yours shine brighter.

Where is malays came from originally, could anyone remember? Correct me if I am wrong. Old malays are originally came from south China, the province now called Yunnan in China. Also merge from Sumatra, Jawa, Aceh, etc.

I have no quarrel with one in this round. I agree with wholeheartedly that the history on Chin Peng is not only scanty but biased and one-sided.
For all his faults, Chin Peng was a true nationalist. He thought Malayan rather than Malay, Indian or Chinese, or in my case, Eurasian.
However he used the wrong approach, i.e. communism in his attempt to unite the country. The British were able to foil his fight for independence for the country by playing the divide and rule card, showing his move as a Chinese one and against the malays.
Umno copied the British tactic of divide and rule which has continued to this day and is the basis of the BN power structure.
But as I explained in that posting, what the retarded fellows are doing is futile, as no one can really distort history and remain credible for long.

I am absolutely agree with you. Malaysia is strictly for those malay pig………..they are so stupid pig, yet the government want to aid them on their all those university places - 80% is reserved for higher education to these so called bumis (actually just the generation of the pirates originated from Indonesia).

A good government is one with good opposition - electing the opposition doesn't mean you against the ruling party or agree with the opposition.

I can relate to you in many ways. I have just found out that the best way to deal with bad things, is to turn a blind eye and ear to them. Ignore them, and they will leave you, soon enough. Allow them to spew their insults, it doesn't matter what they say anyway, it is us who are in control of our feelings and how we feel, not them.

If the word "democracy" has been followed properly according to the meaning, there will be no existing problems at all. Where is the freedom of speech on the Malaysia media? Why is there discrimination if people want to practice equal rights?
All of this issue leads to not democracy and racism! The word democracy is used to keep the happy image in the eye of other countries, so it won't effect the economy!

No wonder our education system can only compete with the likes of Chad and Angola, and probably pale in comparison with that in Antigua (many Malaysians would struggle to locate it on the map).
Compare to Nigeria or Bangladesh which have and can continue export their excellent academicians to USA or Australia, but I have yet to hear of any Malaysians (other than those rejected by the Malaysia universities and subsequently emigrated overseas) or ex-lecturers from any Malaysia government run universities recruited even in the most dubious of universities outside of Malaysia.
We are all Malaysians with a role and part to play. Is it too much to ask for truth, freedom of religion and equal treatment? Why should Umno continue to practise apartheid?
Even South Africa is more progressive and have moved away whilst Malaysia is regressing and going deeper into apartheid and everything else such as religion, employment, education, civil law, etc etc etc.

What happened after May 13 was that most citizens became traumatised and decided to leave politics to the politicians. That was our biggest mistake.
The politicians became too powerful and we all just watched and waited while all our freedoms became more restricted like the "frogs in the slow fire cooking".
So the only way to save Malaysia from another May 13 tragedy is to engage the politicians like what many are starting to do now.
Some say just talking is not good enough but talking is part of the process. Enough people must talk before actions can be taken.

For all these nonsense to happen to Malaysia, e.g. inefficiency of government departments, financial incompetent, gross excesses and abuses, corruption and etc, one could only conclude that the government administration is weak and it is being grossly exploited at the great expense of Malaysia and its ordinary people with permanent and long term consequences.
